About Blinds:

  • Blinds are generally used in window. This window blind act as a window covering & it is combination of long strips of fabric or stiff stuff.

  • The greater part of window blinds are Slat blinds, which is composed of  horizontal slats, typically of metal or vinyl, attached with string in such a way that they can be swiveled to permit light to pass between the slats, rotated up to about 170 degrees to cover the light, or pulled up so that the complete window is clear.
  • Vertical blinds is made of slats of harden fabric, plastic, or metal & it is hanged by one end from the window & similar to horizontal slats it can also rotate at  90 degrees to permit light to pass from side to side or to fold up on one side of a door or window.
  • Vertical blinds exhibit better control over the extent of natural or exterior light entering the room because of the ability of slats to close tightly.
  • Venetian blinds consist of metal, plastic & some time wooden basically bamboo blinds. These blinds can rotate up to 1800 to permit light to pass from one side to other. The common width varies between 16 mm to 120 mm but the most common slits are of 50 mm.
  • Other varieties of window blinds include
    • Mini blinds (venetian blinds with very narrow slats usually 25 mm wide),

    • Roman shades, and roller shades.

Raw materials:

  • The fabrics for blinds are generally woven on handlooms or power looms. The main raw materials used for the blinds are polyester, viscose, cotton, acrylic and blended yarns.
  • There are also other varieties including glass fibre fabrics, black-outs, Jacquards, etc.
  • The main raw material for roller blinds is either 100 % polyester or polyester-viscose blend. Sometime special fabrics for blackouts or acoustic performance are also used.
  • Different types of coatings are done on the fabric for blinds to make it water resistant, dust repellent or stain free. Coating is done on one side (facing the sun for reflecting the light) or both the sides of the fabric. The coating is also done to prevent the fading of color due to excess exposure to sunlight.
