Development in Tent Fabric for Defence Applications

Thisstudy is done to develop water repellent as well as flame retardant finish ontent fabric.


Cottoncanvas fabric having GSM 360 has been subjected to water repellency, flameretardancy treatments.


Itis observed that the use of Flame retardant and water repellent chemical in thesame bath do not give encouraging results.


Followingprocess routes have found to be effective:


A.   Application of waterrepellent chemical in padding and flame retardant chemical in coating:


Fluorocarbon at dosage level of 25 gpl along withextender about 400 gpl in padding and halogen based flame retardant at dosagelevel of about 60 parts along with other coating ingredients is found to givesatisfactory results.


B.   Application of Flameretardant chemical in padding and water repellent chemical in coating:


Phosphorous-based flame retardant chemical atdosage level of 400 gpl along with cross-linking agent about 70 gpl in paddingand fluorocarbon at dosage level of about 25 parts along with extender (400parts) and other coating ingredients is found to give satisfactory results.
