About cigarette filter:

Cigarette filter reduces harshness of tobacco smoke by reducing the amount of tar, smoke and other fine particles during combustion of the tobacco portion.
The filter is primarily made-up of cellulose acetate fibres known as tow.
Tri-acetin plasticizers are used as a hardening agent for bonding the fibres to keep its shape.
With the help of paper filter is wrapped up & sealed with a line of adhesive.

Process of manufacturing cigarette filter:

Cigarette filters decrease the amount of smoke and other chemical particles inhaled by smokers. The reduction of these elements by the cigarette filter serves to reduce lung and throat irritation. “Cigarette is injurious to health”, but this cigarette filter is minimizing the harsh affect of disease to some extent; but on the contrary it also is affecting the marine life. It is also taking years to degrade. So there is a strong need to research for filter or butt recycling as well as R & D for making bio-gradable cigarette butt.
