Clouds Rest & Fairview nominated for Polartec Apex Awards

Design awards come few and far between in the world of technical outdoor gear, but maternity apparel start-up Mountain Mama has just been nominated for two. The nominations for Polartec's Apex Award for design excellence and innovation come mere weeks after the company launched its first line at the Outdoor Retailer Winter Marketplace in Salt Lake City.

Both pieces are currently in production and will be available for Fall 2010 at mountain-mama.com and select retailers. Here's a bit more info about them:

Nominated for a 2010 Polartec Apex Award for design innovation and excellence, the Clouds Rest is the world's first technical base layer for maternity; in fact, it's the first long underwear or thermal under garments of any kind for maternity. The garments combine the best technical material with innovative design. Ultra-wicking, super-stretchy Polartec Power Dry fabric creates a bulk-free base layer for dry comfort in all conditions.

Cut to accommodate all stages of pregnancy, the waffle-weave material makes tops and bottoms lightweight enough for cold-weather layering and robust enough for lounging or yoga class. Curved shirt-front hem with exclusive Bellyglove fit eliminates up-drafts, unflattering draping, and peek-a-boo bellies. Concealed 12” YKK zipper provides temperature control and makes this a perfect nursing top. Flat-finished seams avoid chaffing, and tagless labels eliminate itch, scratch and tickle. Also nominated for a 2010 Polartec Apex Award, the Fairview Wrap fleece jacket makes innovative use of Polartec Thermal Pro fabric. The design ties at the sternum for full coverage at full term, or ties at the sides for a snug, post-pregnancy fit, so the jacket is adjustable to all stages of pregnancy and beyond. The shawl collar fastens at the throat to keep the cold at bay, while the fleece-lined hood and pockets for extra warmth. A special buttonhole at the pocket both hides the tie and accommodates an earpiece cord for a phone or MP3 player. Sizes: S-XL. Colors: Charcoal Grey, Oatmeal Heather.
