Groupama Team France tests catamaran with NTPT prepregs

North Thin Ply Technology (NTPT), developers and producers of a wide range of weight saving repreg materials and automation solutions for the high performance composite industry, has reported that Groupama Team France has successfully completed a month long program of water testing with its AC Test (AC45 Turbo) catamaran, that uses NTPT prepregs.

New carbon fibre to cut production costs by 50%

A process developed by the teams at Lemond Composites and Oak Ridge National Laboratory’s (ORNL’s) Carbon Fiber Technology Facility (CFTF) will cut production costs by more than 50 per cent relative to the lowest cost industrial grade carbon fibre. Lemond has now secured a licensing agreement from ORNL for the new carbon fibre technology.

IACMI names new facility for composites engineering

The Institute for Advanced Composites Manufacturing Innovation (IACMI) and The University of Tennessee, Knoxville officials have named a revamped University of Tennessee building as a facility devoted to composites and fibres manufacturing and engineering. It has been named as ‘Fibres and Composites Manufacturing Facility and Engineering Annex.’

Turkish company Kordsa Global began construction work with a groundbreaking ceremony for the Composite Technologies Center of Excellence to be set up in association with Sabancı University in Istanbul. The Center will work on advanced, nanotechnology-integrated composite technologies that transform many industries from aviation to automotive.

Composites maker Gurit’s H1 operating profit expands 21%

Operating profit expanded 21 per cent year on year in the six month period ended June 30, 2016 to reach CHF 19.1 million at Switzerland based composites maker Gurit, while operating profit margin reached 10.5 per cent. The operating profit includes expenses of CHF 2.5 million, mainly related to non cash impairment charges of CHF 2.0 million.
