Cosalt bags Babcock Rail contract for Hi Vis PPE
Babcock Rail, one of the UK's major rail infrastructure support organisations, has awarded Cosalt, a leading provider of critical safety equipment and services for the Offshore Oil & Gas and Marine industries, as well as protective clothing for people exposed to hostile environments, a new three-year contract starting 1st January 2010 to supply specialist personal protection equipment (PPE) for the company's employees.
The contract covers the supply of safety footwear and Hi Vis GORE-TEX clothing, workwear and flame retardant PPE. All the garments mirror those being supplied to Babcock Rail's major customer Network Rail. They exceed the relevant European standards and comply with the rail industry standard GO/RT 3279.
A key factor behind the contract win has been Cosalt's long-standing relationship with Babcock Rail. Cosalt has been a key part of Babcock Rail's strategic supply chain for a number of years. In late July/early August 2008, Cosalt was instrumental in supporting Babcock Rail with a highly successful rebranding roll out to 1800 employees during an incredible three-week window of activity.
Commented Gerry Beach, Babcock Rail's Key Commodity Manager: "With the offer of competitive rates and our new combined approach to procuring such items this contract gives us the opportunity of better control and management of our spend on rail specialised PPE. It will also deliver a reduction in associated operational and administrative processing costs, allowing my team to focus on further value adding opportunities in other areas. We are also comforted in the knowledge that safety critical clothing and footwear will be available to our staff at all times due to the excellent account management Cosalt provides.
"We are confident that by continuing to work closely with Cosalt our staff will remain properly protected on our work sites through continued use of quality approved PPE. It is my belief that Cosalt is a market leader in this field within the rail industry. The company's product portfolio not only covers all safety aspects associated with line side protection but also offers comfort to the wearer."
Commenting on the new contract, Jon Crossland, Managing Director of Cosalt's Workwear business said: "We are absolutely thrilled that Babcock has chosen to extend our relationship. For many years we have worked together to provide their track side employees with PPE that offers optimum safety, complete comfort, maximum visibility, absolute protection and total performance in what are tough working conditions."
