Covestro has developed new polyurethane raw materials for sustainable, water-borne textile coatings for medical applications such as wound dressings that assist in healing, absorbent foams, adhesives and films based on waterborne products, surgical wear and hospital bed linen. These raw materials will be presented at the INDEX17 trade fair for nonwovens.

INDEX17 trade show is being organised in Geneva during April 4-7.

Textile coating applications in the medical environment have become a new focus of Covestro's material development. Such applications include surgical wear, hospital bed linen, coatings for medical furniture, but also medical bandages. Covestro is among the world's largest polymer companies.

The new polyurethane raw materials, under the trade name of Baymedix, are used, for example, in absorbent foams manufactured from Baymedix FP, adhesives with skin contact made of Baymedix A and films based on the waterborne products Baymedix FD and CD. These raw materials impart enhanced stability to coatings towards disinfectants.  (SV)
