Advanced composites specialist Gurit has introduced two new automotive materials - Gurit Smartcure epoxy prepreg press moulding system and Gurit Prime 180 - at the Composites Europe 2016 event, which is currently underway in Zurich, Switzerland. Gurit will also showcase its entire product range including Gurit SC 110 visual carbon exhibits at the event.

In order to provide visitors with an understanding of how Smartcure transforms the production of automotive composite parts, Gurit is showcasing different stages of the manufacturing process up to a finished part at the event. The sample Gurit Prime 180 panels are also on display to demonstrate the good surface clarity of the resin system for structural and aesthetic applications.

Smartcure is specifically designed to meet the high-quality volume manufacturing needs of the automotive industry. Dedicated to speeding up production processes while ensuring constant part quality, the 5-minute curing prepreg allows for automated lay-up, pre-forming at room temperature and rapid hot-in hot-out production methods at high service temperatures. Gurit Smartcure is suitable for a wide range of structural and non-structural applications and has successfully been beta-tested by various car manufacturers and tier-1 suppliers.

Prime 180 is a two-component low pressure resin transfer moulding (RTM) system, designed to achieve high temperature performance and good surface clarity for structural and aesthetic applications. The resin system's low ambient viscosity and wide injection window allow for quick fill times resulting in fast processing cycles and increased productivity.

Gurit will also showcase a rear spoiler and interior door cards made from its unique SC 110 visual carbon prepregs at the fair. Tested and qualified by a range of leading car manufacturers and used by several renowned tier-1 suppliers, Gurit SC 110 offers excellent surface quality for exterior and interior visual carbon programs.
