Gurit, a leading developer and manufacturer of advanced composite materials, components and technologies, has won a new contract for the production and supply of carbon fibre-based exterior car body panels to an Italian premium automotive OEM. Total value of the two-year contract is at around CHF 9 million and supply is scheduled to start in January 2018.

As part of the contract, Gurit will supply carbon fibre-based hoods and further exterior body panels to achieve best-in-class functional performance for the high-performance car. The parts will be manufactured with Gurit’s patented press technology and are based on a new material and design concept.

Furthermore, Gurit’s composite engineering department has been involved in the structural design of the parts, including Finite Element Analysis (FEA) for mechanical loading performance and head impact predictions of the parts. Volume production of the car parts will be carried out at Gurit’s Hungarian plant, which employs a highly-skilled and experienced workforce for automotive body panel manufacture.

Keith Netting, head of sales and program engineering said, “We are very pleased to work on such a prestigious program. It is a clear sign of our engineering and manufacturing capabilities that we have built up over the course of the years.” (GK)
