Taiwan’s GS develops green alternative for marine upholstery

General Silicones (GS) has developed Compo-SiL technology as a green alternative to toxic leather and leatherette materials used in marine upholstery. Marine environment requires upholstery companies to rely on faux leather products based on expanded vinyl. These products comprise vinyl plastic and a high percentage of PVC, a plastic with toxicity.

The total trade increased by 22.11 per cent from 2016 to 2018, according to the data from TexPro. The global trade of tarpaulins, awnings and sunblinds was $3,249.69 million in 2016, which increased to $3,968.12 million in 2018.
