Kordsa, the global player of tire, composite, and construction reinforcement technologies market, has announced that the company has developed a new resin technology that for fast curing prepreg systems under 3 minutes. The new Kordsa technology provides speed and efficiency in the automotive industry, reflecting the company’s power in composites.

Bringing speed and productivity increase with its new resin technology, Kordsa provides a revolutionary shortening in the curing process thanks to its innovation competence. With the new resin technology developed by Kordsa, the curing time of 9 minutes has been reduced to 3 minutes and the surface quality of the composite material has increased. With this new resin technology, Kordsa has also developed and launched a process technology suitable for automotive production speed.

Kordsa’s new technology is developed by world’s leading R&D Centre at Composite Technologies Composite Centre of Excellence, which brings together industry representatives and academics under the same roof for basic research, applied research, technology development, product development, entrepreneurship, and manufacturing processes. The new technology will bring a fresh new dimension to the industry and Kordsa’s range of thermoset prepregs which include a wide range of resin formulations specially formulated by Kordsa for different applications and production processes. Its short curing cycle and hot de-mouldable nature are especially optimised for mass production at automotive industry.

Compression moulding is the recommended process for this new resin system. It not only cures under 3 minutes at 150°C at press under isothermal curing conditions but also is hot de-mouldable and has a long out-life of two weeks at ambient temperature. The extreme conditions does not affect the visual performance of this innovative prepreg system which is capable of giving class A surface quality. The new visual prepreg shows a good drapability and is suitable for both fast press moulding and low to medium tack optimised for press curing.

Thanks to its mid to high Tg formulation, it is suitable for cataphoresis, hot painting, and hot adhesive bonding, the new all-in-one fast cure hot de-mouldable press curable visual prepreg is available as UD and various weaving styles of carbon and glass. Designed also for structural applications requiring excellent chemical resistance, it gives flexibility with its good chemical resistance. Kordsa’s new prepreg appears to have an exciting future as it is suitable for autoclave short curing cycle that serves as the everyday workhorse for the world’s automotive industry. (GK)
