Korean researchers developed graphene-based e-textiles capable of exchanging information via sensory interfaces like sight and sound. The team used laser direct patterning technology to create laser-induced graphene, achieving electrical conductivity. Hyosung TNC has succeeded in developing and using nylon for the liner material of hydrogen vehicle fuel tanks with its own technology, the first of its kind for a Korean company. Hyosung TNC's nylon material is superior to conventional metal and high-density polyethylene (HDPE) liner materials in terms of lightweight, gas barrier, and impact resistance.

Kolon Industries Inc has increased the production capacity of its polyester tyre cord fabric plant in Vietnam by 14 per cent to 19,200 tons of tyre cord fabrics compared with 2018. In 2022, the company’s global sales are anticipated to cross 10 million units. Kolon is presently able to generate 103,200 tons of tyre cord fabric on an annual basis.

SK geo centric (SKGC) and PureCycle Technologies, a US advanced recycling company revolutionising plastic waste, have signed a non-binding head of agreement to open Asia’s first recycled polypropylene (PP) plant in Ulsan, South Korea. The facility is expected to have an annual capacity of 60,000 tons and an expected completion at the end of 2024.

A joint venture between South Korea’s SK Group and China’s Sinopec plans to start producing petrochemicals at its new facilities in Wuhan in 2021 second half. Sinopec-SK Wuhan Petrochemical was set up by SK Global Chemical, a subsidiary of SK Innovation, and Sinopec in 2013. Production is projected to rise by 40 per cent once full capacity is achieved.
