Oerlikon has signed letters of intent (LoI) to set up two research collaborations in additive manufacturing with the Technical University of Munich, Germany and with the Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology, Russia. The partnerships will support Oerlikon’s strategy to expand into additive manufacturing, a raw material with expected growth demand.

According to the German company, the partnerships will address some of the most pressing research and development challenges in the field of additive manufacturing.

“While additive manufacturing is becoming increasingly adopted for production in industries like aerospace, automotive, power generation and medical, challenges remain before it is mature enough for mass production in industries,” Oerlikon observed.

“Oerlikon, TU Munich and Skoltech are all well placed with their expertise to address these challenges in additive manufacturing,” the company added. (AR)
