SCA conducts seminar on incontinence & menstrual hygiene

SCA, a leading global hygiene and forest products company, recently conducted a seminar on hygiene in the SCA pavilion in connection with the Volvo Ocean Race finale.

Access to proper sanitation and hygiene affect overall economic development as well as health, gender equality, human rights, education, environment and employment was the overall topic at the seminar.

The title of the seminar was “From stigma to dignity: menstruation, incontinence and other blind spots in human development”. Representatives from Sida, WaterAid, Water Supply & Sanitation Collaborative Council (WSSCC), and SCA gave presentations from a government agency, NGO, UN body and company perspective, respectively, which contributed to a multifaceted view on the subject, the company said in a statement.

Marie Ottosson assistant director general at Sida said, “There is a clear link between women’s economic empowerment and menstrual hygiene management (MHM). Addressing access to safe water and improved sanitation and hygiene are essential elements within the proposed Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). We consider that support to MHM programs, which aim at improving lives of women and girls is a highly relevant in the context of overall development cooperation objectives.” (GK)
