The COSATU-affiliated SACTWU has now settled its 2022 wage negotiations with a seven per cent hike in the nonwoven textile sector. The agreement is part of a series of other wage settlements that the SACTWU has successfully achieved. The SACTWU had formally raised a dispute regarding wages for the nonwoven textile sector on June 17, 2022.

The Southern African Clothing and Textile Workers’ Union (SACTWU), affiliated with Congress of South African Trade Unions (COSATU), has settled its 2021-2022 wage negotiations in the nonwoven textile sub-sector to secure a 5.5 per cent wage hike for its members. The backdated agreement is effective for a 12-month period until June 30, 2022.

Mandela Bay Development Agency (MBDA) and Mandela Bay Composites Cluster (MBCC) have entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU). Employees working in the nonwovens sub-sector of the South African textile industry will receive a 7.25 per cent wage hike back dated from July 1, 2018. The workers will also receive another 7.25 per cent wage hike beginning July 1, 2019, as per the two-year agreement reached under the auspices of the National Textile Bargaining Council (NTBC).
