Union textiles minister Smriti Irani believes that the technical textile sector has a huge scope in India and has urged the industry to offer suggestions so that the government can take appropriate policy actions. She also said that research and development improvements are required in the sector and the government is keen to attract investments.

Addressing around 400 delegates at the International Textile Manufacturers Federation (ITMF) annual conference, Irani said that the government is willing to discuss issues faced by the technical textile industry to find solutions.

Participants at the conference offered their suggestions to promote the sector in India. A delegate suggested introducing regulations to encourage various sectors to use technical textiles, while another said providing incentives to allied sectors can help boost the utilisation of technical textile in the country, according to a leading daily.

Irani also requested Chinese delegates to invest in India, who are preferring countries like Vietnam, Bangladesh and Cambodia following the increase in wage cost in China. Investments from China have been a major driver in promoting the textiles sector in these countries. (KD)
