  • The various advantages that HDPE/PP bags have over the conventional packing materials are:
  • Higher Strength
  • Light Weight
  • Minimal Seepage
  • Moisture Proof
  • Long Lasting (Durable)
  • Cheaper (as it can be reused)

APPLICATION:

A. Woven Sacks - Cement Packaging
  • Polypropylene (PP) woven bag have gradually more put back jute bags and paper bags for packaging cement. They provide separate advantages such as-
  • High strength,
  • Lower bag weight,
  • Low cost,
  • Fungus attack and
  • Low seepage of cement as compared to jute bags.
  • In comparison to paper bags, polypropylene woven sacks provide reward such as superior bursting strength, little weight and low cost, although paper bags provide enhanced printability and lower seepage than PP bags.
    • In the earlier period HDPE woven bags were generally used for packaging cement, but the majority of the end users have altered to polypropylene because of  the following advantages :-
    • Polypropylene has an inferior density (0.90 g/cc) than HDPE (0.952 g/cc) so giving superior yield per unit mass.
    • Polypropylene exhibits higher service temperature than HDPE, hence when cement is filled at a temperature of 85°C-90°C at a pressure of 6 kg/cm2, the performance of PP woven sacks is better in terms of bursting strength.
    • Polypropylene has higher tensile strength than HDPE.
    • Easy availability.
    • Unlamented gusseted polypropylene bags with a valve for filling cement are normally used. Cement is usually packed in 50 kg bags.
B. Fertilizer Packing
  • Laminated HDPE bags are mostly used for packing fertilizers.
  • Because of HDPE show signs of better outdoor steadiness than PP and also for the reason that PE lamination grades are simply available, PP till current times did not make inroads into this sector due to unavailability of an appropriate PP lamination grade.

C. New Applications for PP Woven Sacks

  • Sugar bags
  • Postal bags
  • Tea bags

D. Flexible Intermediate Bulk Containers (FIBC) / Jumbo bags

  • These FIBC bags are used for packing
  • Agro products,
  • Chemicals,
  • Detergent,
  • Plastic raw materials,
  • Petrochemical products and
  • Fertilizers.
  • UV stabilized polypropylene (PP) grade are used for this end use.
  • The tape denier varies from 2100D to 2600D for Jumbo (extra large) bags.
