New Generation E-Textiles

E-textiles have been called smart textiles or intelligent textiles, electroactive textiles, wearable electronics, and textronic depending on the approach. All these words referred to the fabrics that can function as electronic devices and behave physically as textiles1. E-textiles are located in the potential area of intersection among textiles, electronics, and information science (Fig.1) as it is the incorporation of digital and electronic components in everyday textiles and clothes. From the textile point of view, e-textiles need to be designed to exhibit physical properties similar to those of traditional textiles such as bendable, stretchable, and washable while keeping good electrical conductivity. In addition, the e-textiles should have greater flexibility in tailoring to the needs of the users and applications. This paper is concerned with the evaluation of E-textiles.
