Ina quest for finding new routes to get strategically advantages, the militarystrategies of the world are undergoing rapid change. The mode of war in 21stcentury has completely changed and the increasing level of threat in modernwarfare has exposed our military personnel to face a range of adverseenvironmental conditions that includes, under water operations, electronicwarfare, and high altitude & mountain region warfare. This sea change inmilitary strategies has opened up lot of opportunities for the industry andresearch centers to deliver high performance products that meet specificrequirements of armed forces. Textile technologists have to exploit state ofart technologies available in the field of polymer science, spinning andfinishing process using a techno- engineering approach that will benefit theservices. The key areas, which are expected to attract the industry, includePersonal protective clothing for under water and sub zero conditions,protective clothing against hazardous chemical and biological agents,camouflage systems & supporting equipments. The above- mentioned areasmight infuse a new role for the technologists working in the allied fields suchas composites, nano science and polymer science. The development of superiorproducts in the above-mentioned critical areas will help and equip our soldierswith the state of art clothing systems.
