ABSTRACT

SMART fabrics and wearable technology is a unique and essential referencesource for researchers, designers and engineers developing textiles andclothing products in this cross-disciplinary area and interactive textiles are conceivedas innovative textile structure integrating sensing, actuation, electronic, andpower and/or communication functions. Due to their multifunctional quality, enabled by wearable devices that are flexible and comfortable to the humanbody, e-textiles are considered as promoters of a higher quality of life andprogress in biomedicine. Itis also beneficial for those in the healthcare industry and academicsresearching textiles, fashion and design.

New promising research recently emerged from theminiaturization of electronics and informatics (computers, micro sensors, signal processing, transmissions, etc.), making possible the integration ofmultiple, smart functions into textiles, free from any impediment. An attempthas been made to prepare a cloth whichcould be comfortably worn and is efficient to incorporate different circuits asper requirement.

1. INTRODUCTION

The area of IET INTERACTIVE ELECTRONIC TEXTILEShas emerged from the wearable computing arena. Many of the wearable computingdevices developed to the date are cumbersome and awkward typically strapped orcarried on the body. But, then textile based wearable electronics that allowinteractive touch, voice and body heat activation was developed.
