German functional specialist Sympatex has been recognised for its performance in the area of sustainability by non-profit network B Corp. It received the Best for the World 2021 award for initiatives like the European industry partnership wear2wear, its offer of the world’s first climate-neutral membrane and UN Fashion Industry Charter for Climate Action.

As a B Corp company, Sympatex Technologies must always meet the highest standards of social and environmental performance, public transparency and accountability in order to balance profit with purpose. The award is a renewed motivation for the firm and confirmation to continue to work successfully with the global B Corp community to get better every day and positively influence all stakeholders in a sustainable way, the two entities said in a joint press release.

Since the founding of the B Corp NGO in 2006, there are now over 4,000 certified B Corporations in more than 77 countries. The stated goal of reconciling profit maximisation with a social mission unites all B Corp companies on their journey towards a responsible, environmentally sustainable and socially fair future for business. Close to 800 B Corps from more than 50 countries were named to the 2021 Best for the World lists, including TOMS, Too Good To Go and Patagonia.

The B Corp certification is based on a company’s verified performance in the so-called B Impact Assessment. The five categories of corporate governance, employees and impact on the environment, customers and society are assessed. Participating companies have to answer 200 questions, and the B Impact Assessment becomes more demanding every year.

“For us, sustainability is at the core of everything we do, and this award honours and confirms our years of ambitious commitment to closing the textile loop together with our brand partners and driving forward a sustainable textile industry,” said Sympatex CEO Dr Rüdiger Fox.
