Johnson Controls is being honored for having women account for 20 percent of its board of directors by 2020 Women on Boards.

2020 Women on Boards is a non-profit grassroots campaign committed to increasing the percentage of women who serve on public company boards to 20 percent or greater by the year 2020.

Johnson Controls, a global multi industrial company with established core businesses in the automotive, building and energy storage industries, was presented with the organization's Winning "W" Company certificate for its commitment to diversity among its board of directors in 2013.

"We appreciate the recognition and we're proud of the progress we've made, but we have quite a way to go," said Alex Molinaroli, chairman and chief executive officer of Johnson Controls. "In order to achieve our growth objectives, we have to do more to make sure not only our board of directors, but our entire leadership team around the world reflects the diversity of the markets we serve."

In 2013, Johnson Controls had two women serving on its 10 member board of directors.
