Opp Film SA, headquartered in Lima, Peru, will offer polyester bi-oriented (BOPET) film starting in early 2013, the company announced. Part of the Oben Group, Opp Film has purchased a new Brückner Machinenbau line with a nameplate capacity of 35,000 MTPA. The high-speed, 8.7 meter-wide BOPET film line adds to OPP Film's current product offering of bi-axially oriented polypropylene (BOPP) and cast polypropylene (CPP) films. The company also recently started two new BOPP lines, and will start its newest cast film line in July 2012.

"We are proud of these continuing advancements in our production capabilities," stated Alfredo Barreda, vice president, Opp Film, SA. "The superior technology of this new BOPET unit will provide our customers with a highly desirable product, enabling them to gain more market share. Our BOPET films will be available with special treatments, metalized and favorable heat-sealing characteristics."

According to Steve Brandt of Packfilm, the Opp Film subsidiary for North America and based in Houston, "This new project will increase and complement the current product portfolio and allow our customers with just one phone call to purchase BOPP, CPP and BOPET films, in the quantities they want, with the customization they want. This is extremely important for small- and medium-size converters as it generates efficiencies and savings for them. We're already receiving requests from our customers asking that we supply BOPET as well. Naturally, these folks are first in line and very anxious for us to start production."

Packfilm started operations in September 2011 and is based in Texas, with a Toronto branch office.

"Our key benefit to the market is that we are able to produce and ship quantities of product that fit the supply need of our customers," Brandt continued. "Now with the new BOPP and cast film lines, followed soon by the BOPET line, Opp Film/Packfilm customers will have even more of a competitive advantage."

Founded in 2003, Opp Film is part of the Oben Holding Group and is headquartered in Lima, Peru, exports to 23 countries, and has more than 600 employees. Opp Film products include standard and specialized BOPP films and CPP films in a full range of standard and custom widths and lengths including master rolls.

Available in one to three layers, thicknesses range from 15 to 50 microns for the BOPP products and 18 to 150 microns for CPP film. Secondary operations include slitting and metalizing capacity of 30,000 metric tons.

Production is done on tenter-process units in the company's BOPP plants located in South America. Opp Film manufacturing plants are certified by the American Institute of Bakery (AIB), and by the SGS Company. They are periodically inspected by several independent laboratories and quality assurance agencies.

Headquartered in Lima, Peru, the company was founded in 2003 to develop, produce and commercialize polypropylene-based film, sheet and thermoforming products. Opp Film is part of the Oben Holding Group, which has manufacturing plants in Peru, Ecuador, Argentina and Columbia along with distribution centers in Brazil, Venezuela, Chile, El Salvador and the United States.
