Guangwei delivers first AV500 UAV to AVIC design institute

Guangwei Composites R&D centre has recently delivered its first AV500B/C unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) to AVIC helicopter design institute. Guangwei, headquartered in China, is a leading enterprise in the domestic carbon fibre industry with a complete variety of fibres, the most advanced production technology, and the most complete industrial chain.

The AV500 light UAV, with huge market potential, was newly launched by AVIC helicopter design institute. It targets at the military market, but can also be modified and used in environmental monitoring, search and rescue, agricultural and forestry protection, geological exploration, and other civilian areas, according to a press release by the company.

The AV500 takes a large number of carbon fibre composite materials. Guangwei supported AVIC helicopter design institute in detailed design and industrial audit during the design phase. In the production and assembly process, Guangwei, applying its self-developed carbon fibre composite materials, provides a one-stop solution for the development, production and assembly of composite materials (honeycomb and foam sandwich structural parts), integral fuel tank bearing structure, integral structure and lamination of tail beam, closed cavity structural parts and other parts of AV500 UAV.

Carbon fibre composite materials have the advantages of light weight and high assembly degree of parts, when applied to the UAV, they greatly improve the vehicle’s cruise capability, mobility and flexibility, and also simplify the assembly process. AV500 series UAV has two models (B and C). Currently, model B has been verified and the market demand is strong. The new C model will face scientific research and test flights.

Nowadays, there’s a growing demand to domestic carbon fibre composite materials in the aerospace and other fields of national defence and military industry. As a pioneer, Guangwei aims to produce high-quality downstream products on the basis of providing high-quality carbon fibre, so as to finally upgrade itself in the development of the carbon fibre industry chain.
