Microtex Composites, specialised in producing advanced composites, has launched C-Block 160 - a composite block made of recycled carbon fibre and epoxy resin – which is suitable for structural, thermal and aesthetic uses. The whole block can be worked by the client to realise carbon moulds or carbon tools. It is especially suited for the motorsport market.

C-Block 160 is associated with fast processing which means quick milling and no need for long surface finishing. Moreover, the block features high strength, durability (up to 15 to 20 cycles) and has unrivalled dimensional stability. Finally, it is easily repairable. C-Block 160 is also very versatile. In case one needs to produce larger tools, it is possible to glue different blocks. It is especially suited for the motorsport market where a reduced lead time design to part is required.

Since C-Block 160 is made of recycled carbon fibre, it allows to reduce the impact on the environment by abating production waste and reusing raw materials. In comparison to resin tools, C-Block 160 is associated with direct mould production and lower working time, reduced CTE (coefficient of thermal expansion) on X-Y, possibility to produce more tools with the same mould, and lightness.

C-Block 160 advantages compared to aluminium moulds include lower thermal inertia of tool, lightness, easy repair, and low thermal expansion of tool during cure. C-Block 160 has lower cost compared to any alternative carbon fibre tool.
