Caparo to set up carbon fibre auto component unit in India

April 10, 2012 - India

Caparo Group, founded in 1968 by Indian-born British industrialist Lord Swraj Paul, is exploring possibility to set up plants to manufacture automobile parts made of carbon fibre composites, in India.

The 1.5 billion euro London-based Caparo Group, which supplies several components to all the leading car manufacturers in India, plans to set up the plant for composite components in South India.

Components made of carbon fibre composites make a car lighter, which results in consumption of less fuel and is therefore, more eco-friendly, according to Caparo.

Currently, such components are used in racing cars and aircrafts like Boeing 787. But, the Group now plans to manufacture the same for use in passenger cars.

The Caparo Group is a major auto component maker in India which operates 32 manufacturing units across the country.

The Group has the distinction of making the world’s fastest supercar Caparo T1, which can zoom from 0-60 miles per hour in just 2.5 seconds.
