Davron designs overhead indexing conveyor oven 'DTI-1201'

July 30, 2014 - United States Of America

Davron Technologies, Inc. designed and manufactured an overhead indexing conveyor oven, the DTI-1201. The oven is used to preheat a polypropylene product used in the automotive industry. The product is preheated to the desired temperature prior to having an adhesive component applied to it.

The indexing overhead conveyor system designed for the DTI-1201 conveys the product in a straight line through the heated chamber. The heated chamber accommodates 16 index positions to provide the required dwell time for the product. The indexing time is adjustable to allow the production rate to be increased or decreased as needed.

The oven features two independent zones of control. This allows for adjustment of the preheating profile within the oven chamber, as needed. The operating temperature range for each zone is between 122? and 302?F. Each zone is 50 percent of the oven length and utilizes one electric heater and one circulation fan. A single exhaust fan is utilized for the oven. The heaters are controlled by SCRs. This control system automatically adjusts voltage to maintain the desired temperature in each zone.

The circulation fans and exhaust fan utilize Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs), allowing for airflow adjustment and maximum operational efficiency of the system. Other distinguishing features of this overhead indexing conveyor oven include a PLC with operator touch screen (HMI) that controls the entire system and an overhead continuous conveyor system that includes custom designed hooks for efficient loading and unloading of the product.

The DTI-1201’s heated chamber has a usable interior dimensions of 3’0” wide x 5’8” high x 39’8” long. The inner chamber is made out of 16-gauge aluminized steel backed by four inches of eight-pound density mineral wool insulation. The exterior is constructed from 16-gauge carbon steel and is backed by a structural steel frame and finished with high-temperature paint. The safety system features a 42-inch handrail and toe board along the top of the oven, a caged ladder, fire protection piping and sprinkler heads, and safety mats for operator protection.

Davron provided turnkey design and manufacturing services for this overhead indexing conveyor oven to meet the temperature and process requirements provided by the customer. Once acceptance and training were completed at Davron headquarters, the oven was loaded on a truck and shipped to the customer’s facility. Davron fielded mechanical and electrical crews to provide a turnkey installation at the customer’s facility.
