FICCI to host seminar on technical textiles & nonwovens

The Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) is organising a seminar cum exhibition on technical textiles and nonwovens on December 22, 2016 in Coimbatore. The 1-day programme, being organised in association with the office of textile commissioner, will discuss investment opportunities in technical textiles and nonwovens.

The seminar aims to attract and motivate domestic players to invest in technical textiles. This will increase the scope of the Indian technical textile industry to have a sustainable future for a longer duration, said FICCI Tamil Nadu State Council.

Speakers from the textile industry will also focus on industrial textiles, medical textiles, geotextiles and agrotextiles industry.

Technical textiles is a research oriented industry. Since the last few years, the industry has grown worldwide and the global market value for technical textiles, estimated at $144 billion in 2014, is projected to rise to $200 billion dollars by 2020.

The technical textile sector has a huge scope in India, said Union textiles minister Smriti Irani at the International Textile Manufacturers Federation (ITMF) annual conference held recently. She also added that research and development improvements are required in the sector and the government is keen to attract investment. (RR)
