Finland’s Suominen moves forward towards carbon neutral nonwovens

March 31, 2023 - Finland

Suominen is working continuously to extend its product portfolio of sustainable nonwovens. Biolace Zero is its carbon neutral nonwoven product made of 100 per cent cellulosic carbon neutral Veocel Lyocell fibres.

Biolace Zero is 100 per cent biodegradable, compostable and plastic free. It can be used for many kinds of wiping applications like baby, personal care, and household wipes due to its excellent wet and dry strength and improved softness. Biolace Zero is certified according to Standard 100 by Oeko-Tex.

“The Veocel Lyocell fibres are produced by Suominen’s long-term partner Lenzing. We choose to work with other frontrunners in their fields, as we believe collaboration benefits the whole nonwoven industry’s sustainability efforts and targets,” the company said in a press release.

Carbon neutrality means that the greenhouse gas emissions of nonwoven have been calculated from the raw material production to the customer’s production facility. They are then reduced and offset through certified carbon offset projects.

Biolace Zero’s carbon neutrality has been certified by ClimatePartner. The offset project we are supporting for Biolace Zero’s part is a forest protection programme in Mataven, Columbia. The programme helps support indigenous people to avoid deforestation. The initiative protects 1,150,200 hectares of tropical forests, safeguarding its biodiversity.
