Saertex is collaborating with the internationally operating manufacturer of resins, gelcoats, adhesives and specialty polymers Scott Bader for production and distribution of its Saertex Leo system. The two have signed a cooperation agreement that combines the strength of the partners to meet the highest fire protection and further developing the Leo system.

The sales and support teams of Saertex and Scott Bader will work closely to provide their customers on the world market with high-quality consultancy and fast availability of fire-protection-relevant materials for composites.

As a specialist, Saertex manufactures reinforcement materials made of glass, carbon and aramid fibres. The Saertex Leo system is the product range within the Saertex product programme for applications providing the highest level of fire protection and consists of multiaxial non-crimp fabrics and core materials as well as a specifically designed resin system (not filled and halogen-free) and an easy-to-process gelcoat for fulfilling the highest fire protection requirements such as EN 45545 in the field of rail vehicles, EN13501 in the field of construction or the IMO FTP Codes in the field of shipbuilding.

The resin system within the modular LEO system is delivered by Scott Bader and further developed together with Saertex. “All materials used within the Leo system are perfectly matched to one another to provide our customers with a reliable solution which meets the highest fire protection requirements,” emphasises Steven Bakker, director Industry and Advanced Technologies at Saertex. “As soon as we receive a request, the relevant product components will be provided by Scott Bader and Saertex within a very short time in order to quickly and reliably deliver a complete LEO system to the customer.”

Like Saertex, the sales and support team of Scott Bader in the field of fire protection is globally positioned and, besides Saertex's application consultants, it provides additional support for the LEO products emerging from the cooperation.

“The Saertex Leo system is a unique material system which combines excellent fire protection with the highest mechanical strength for the production of structural fibre composite components,” confirms Neil Gray, global market manager FST at Scott Bader. “Our new LEO Crestapol 1261PA resin for the LEO system fulfills all previous functionality requirements and even improves the mechanical properties for structural components.”

The fibre-reinforced composite materials with integrated fire protection from the Saertex Leo System are used in the marine market, in the construction industry and in the production of rail vehicles. All of these are areas in which the combination of lightweight design, a high mechanical durability and an excellent weather resistance is in demand. (SV)
