Paper Converting Machine Company (PCMC), part of Barry-Wehmiller, has announced the recent milestone sale of a full tissue solution to Select Products. PCMC, headquartered in the US, specialises in the design and manufacture of high-performance converting machinery for the tissue, nonwovens, package-printing, and bag-converting industries worldwide.

The order includes a PCMC Amica consumer rewinder line, a STAX Prima wrapper, a STAX RCP-15 case-packer and all connecting conveyors. The offering became possible after PCMC acquired STAX Technologies in late 2019. Less than a year later, PCMC is prepared to install its first rewinder-through-case-packer turnkey solution in North America.

Select Products plans to install the equipment at a new southern US plant by the end of 2020. The goal is to start delivering products outside of the company’s current distribution areas around New York and Pennsylvania as soon as possible.

“PCMC has offered excellent converting and packaging equipment out of its Green Bay location for decades. That equipment, however, targets high-investment customers, and hasn’t included case-packers and palletizers. Now, the Amica rewinder line and STAX packaging equipment combine to meet a different price and performance balance, enabling PCMC to supply a complete solution for all ranges of the tissue market,” Gino Santi, PCMC global sales executive said in a press release.

“Select Products is a newer company that is producing products for the private-label market. If we buy a full rewinder line every two or three years, it is a big deal and a major investment. Knowing PCMC will take responsibility for all of the equipment was of definite interest to us for this order. It also gives us a lot of confidence to know the entire line is on one platform. The electronics and controls are going to be the same. Product changes, diagnostics and troubleshooting will be easier. The fact that we will be able to work with one supplier for any of these issues is a definite plus,” Nick Galante, Select Products CEO said.

“There is a tremendous sense of excitement to get the PCMC equipment. We wish we could have received it this summer, because the COVID-19 pandemic is causing many people to use private-label brands when no other products are left in the stores. By putting the new Amica line and STAX equipment in the new plant, we will be able to distribute product all the way through the southern and central United States,” Galante added.
