“The recent LCA study systematically measures the environmental impact of outerwear products and thus provides GORE with profound data to optimize the relevant leavers within their entire supply chain”. The report was also peer reviewed by an independent body: the Institute for Environmental Research, in Vashon, WA.

GORE Fabrics strives to reduce the overall impact of its outerwear products through a mindful choice of fabrics and suppliers, through cooperation with the upstream and downstream textile supply chain and through active engagement with customers to promote the right type and frequency of care.

Furthermore, GORE Fabrics’ LCA expertise will contribute to its long-term cooperation with the Sustainable Apparel Coalition (SAC). An industry-wide group of over 80 leading apparel and footwear brands, retailers, suppliers, nonprofits, and NGOs working to reduce the environmental and social impacts of apparel and footwear products around the world.

“We appreciate Gore sharing LCA results as they allow the partners in the value chain – including the consumer – to understand their environmental impact and how to improve. These data for functional outerwear will be valuable input to the Sustainable Apparel’s work to improve environmental product assessments and shape future versions of the Higg Index.

“By that we seek to make the measure of environmental performance scalable to a wide variety of products and catalyse substantial improvements”, says Jason Kibbey, Executive Director of SAC.
