Zoltek Companies, Inc., the global leader in low-cost industrial grade carbon fibre, is expanding its carbon fibre production capacity to 13,000 MT at the facility located in Guadalajara, Mexico. As a result of this expansion, Zoltek's global production capacity (together with its Hungary facility) of PX35 carbon fibre will increase to 28,000 MT.

Zoltek’s PX35 50K carbon fibre is the established standard for large-scale industrial applications such as wind energy and automotive. The Toray Group company is on a mission to commercialise carbon fibre, and increase its position as the global leader in industrial-grade carbon fibre.

“As wind turbines continue to increase their efficiencies with longer, lighter-weight blades, we continue to see an increase in demand for our carbon fibre. We also see developing applications in automotive and energy storage. So, there are several favourable macro trends that we expect will continue to support our rapid growth,” said David Purcell, executive vice president of Sales for Zoltek.

“We will continue to aggressively expand our capacity to stay ahead of demand and ensure we support our customer agreements,” Purcell added.

Zoltek’s PX35 carbon fibre is the industry cost leader, and the preferred carbon fibre for industrial applications due to its balance of cost and delivered performance, the US-headquartered company said on its website.
