Nonconventional advanced technical textiles are high added value products andrepresent, at the moment, a limited portion of technical textiles sector.However, they are expected to grow steadily in the forthcoming future,progressively gaining a larger share in terms of both volume and value, in alarge variety of sectors including medical textiles and sports/ outdoorstextiles.


APPLICATION AND PERSPECTIVES


TheProject on Emerging Nanotechnologies was established in April 2005 as apartnership between the Woodrow Wilson International Centre for Scholars andthe Pew Charitable Trusts. It has produced the first publicly available on-lineinventory of nanotechnology-based consumer products. As of August 25, 2009, thenanotechnology consumer products inventory contains 1015 products or productlines. The inventory has grown by nearly 379 % (from 212 to 1015 products)since it was released in March 2006. Products have been grouped according torelevant main categories that are loosely based on publicly available consumerproduct classification systems. The largest main category is Health &Fitness, with a total of 605 products, followed by Home & Garden (152),Food & Beverage (98), Automotive (68), Electronics & Computer (57),etc.
