Japan’s Toray has increased nylon 66 yarns and derivative fabrics price, for automotive airbag application, by around 20 per cent effectively from December 1, 2021, shipments. Significant shortages of nylon 66 precursor adiponitrile, since 2018, has caused price escalation for nylon66 polymer, a principal material in automotive airbag yarns and fabrics.

Lear Corporation, US’ automotive technology leader in seating and E-systems, has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire substantially all of Kongsberg Automotive’s Interior Comfort Systems (ICS) business unit. Under the terms of the deal, Lear will acquire Kongsberg Automotive’s ICS business unit for €175 million, on a cash and debt free basis.

Jaguar Land Rover has trialled the use of secure blockchain technology to ensure full transparency within a sustainable leather supply chain. The UK-based company has partnered with supply chain traceability provider, Circulor, UK leather manufacturer Bridge of Weir, and the University of Nottingham to trial the use of the traceability technology.
