An auto components subsidiary of the Hero Group, Rockman Industries has acquired a controlling stake in Moldex Composites, a Surat based producer of carbon composites for Rs 100 crore. This foray in to carbon composites technology will help Rockman Industries to diversify into aerospace, motorsports and high end automotive components production.

UK supplier of fibres, fabrics and resin systems for the composites market, Cristex Composite Materials has launched the AscoBV Slitter & Rewinder, which is designed to convert master rolls of fabric to narrow width tapes for use in multiple applications. It can produce crush cut tapes from glass fibre or carbon fibre fabrics in various weights.

Deltares Netherlands, an institute for applied research in the field of water and subsurface, has tested Australian Composite Walls to confirm the performance of composites in the most demanding environments. Composite Walls is a continuous, inter-locking composite wall system developed by Comtec in Australia using composite profiles by Exel Composites.

Attwater & Sons Ltd, a leading developer of industrial laminates, composite materials, and machined components, and composite tube specialist Custom Composites, part of the Attwater Group, will provide rollers for the new Shannon Class All Weather Lifeboat at the new £3.5 million Swanage lifeboat Station, from Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI).

The National Composites Centre (NCC) of the UK will benefit from a £10 million investment announced by universities and science minister Jo Johnson. The funding given to the Universities of Nottingham and Bristol to anchor cutting-edge composites manufacturing research aims to develop the next generation of composites technologies and train people.

The University of Nottingham has announced that the university’s team has secured £10.3 million Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) grant as government funds for new research into pioneering composite manufacturing techniques. Professor Andrew LongProfessor, pro-vice-chancellor for the faculty of engineering will lead the hub.

The trade association, Composites Germany has appointed Michael Effing as the chairman and Elmar Witten as the chief executive officer (CEO). These selected members will be serving for a year. The association aims to strengthen the German composites industry, particularly in the field of research, and take account of overlapping interests.
