India's technical textile sector is growing, with a 57 per cent increase in agrotech imports to ₹159 crore and a 24 per cent decrease in hometech imports to ₹82 crore from April to June 2023. Mobiltech imports remained stable. The ITTA reported agrotech and hometech imports at ₹102 crore and ₹108 crore, respectively, in the same period in 2022.

India will enforce QCO from October 7 this year to standardise 12 categories of protective textiles, including those offering fire, water, and industrial protection. The order aims to maintain a standard quality for both domestically produced and imported products in the domestic market. However, the guidelines will not affect the export market.

In the first quarter of fiscal 2023-24, India saw a modest 1 per cent increase in technical textiles exports, raising the total to ₹5,946 crore ($716.9 million). Analysis by the ITTA noted significant growth in several sectors including a 21 per cent increase in mobitech exports and a notable 91 per cent increase in speciality fibre segment.

Indian firm Garware Technical Fibres Ltd reported a 7 per cent rise in net sales to ₹325.7 crore in Q1 FY24, compared to ₹304.5 crore in Q1 FY23. Profit before tax grew 54 per cent to ₹57.1 crore, and net profit after tax increased by 52 per cent to ₹43 crore. The EPS for Q1 FY24 stood at ₹21.08, a 54 per cent growth over the previous year.
