Japanese researchers have developed a wearable chemical sensor using heat-transfer printing, capable of measuring chloride ion concentration in sweat. The sensor can be applied to textiles to prevent skin irritation, making it useful for early detection of heat stroke and dehydration. The study was conducted by the Tokyo University of Science.

Teijin Frontier has developed nonwoven microcarriers for efficient cell culture. The microcarriers, featuring a unique structure resembling the natural cell environment, promote cell proliferation and circulation of necessary nutrients. Teijin Frontier plans to globally market the microcarriers, aiming for JPY 100 million in sales by fiscal 2026.

Teijin Frontier has developed Solotex Liberte, a functional fabric for sportswear and casual wear. Utilising polytrimethylene terephthalate (PTT) fibre with low-shrinkage technology, the fabric achieves softness, smoothness, and quick drying properties. Teijin Frontier plans to promote Solotex Liberte globally for autumn and winter 2024 collections.

Toray Industries has reported consolidated financial revenue of 1,901.8 billion yen, up 15.5 per cent year-on-year (YoY), for the first nine months (9M) of fiscal 2023 (FY23), ended December 31, 2022. However, core operating income fell 24.1% to 80.4 billion yen and profit attributable to owners of parent was down 16.5 per cent to 74.6 billion yen.
