Finland’s Ahlstrom-Munksjo, a fibre-based solution provider, has reported a record high of €3.1 bn of net sales in 2021 for the reporting cycle from January 1 to December 31, 2021. Europe accounted for 45 per cent of its overall net sales followed by the US at 41 per cent and Asia at 14 per cent. The company also reported an EBITDA at €398 million.

Japanese manufacturer and distributor of chemical products Prime Polymer Co Ltd has decided to suspend operations of one polypropylene production line at its Anesaki Works, which is located at Ichihara city of Chiba Prefecture, in March 2023. Japan’s Teijin has launched a lightweight, strong and cost-effective carbon fibre woven fabric developed with the company’s proprietary tow-spreading technology. The new woven fabric is made with 3K (3,000) carbon fibre filament yarn for applications requiring low weight and design flexibility, such as automotive interior materials and sporting goods.

The University of Tokyo’s Graduate School of Engineering researchers have found a cost-effective way to apply a silver-based antimicrobial clear coating to textiles. The method uses polyphenols, found in food items notorious for staining clothes such as wine and chocolate. A range of textile types can be treated and items can be washed multiple times.
