When the Bodyguard Blanket was introduced a little over a month ago it received worldwide interest. The news of a bullet resistant, backpack-like blanket for students and teachers to wear in the classroom if a school incursion occurs was covered by media outlets in Finland, Australia, Japan, England, Mexico, Kenya, Greece, India, Russia, China, South Africa, Oman the United States and many other countries.

Reporters, from every news medium, wanted to know more about the Bodyguard blanket and why it was created. They were told by inventors, Dr. Steve Walker, Stan Schone and Dr. Jay Hanan of Edmond, Oklahoma that the blanket had two functions; helping to save students and teachers’ lives during school shootings, and when tornadoes occur in the absents of a storm shelter.

“The twin-function, Bodyguard blanket is an incredible product that can reduce injuries and save lives,” said Dr. Walker. “We knew we had created something very special, yet we received tremendous interest from people who wanted a blanket for tornado and storm protection only, at a lower price. That’s when we decided to create the Stormguardblanket which cost less than a third as much as the Bodyguard blanket.”

According to co-inventor, Stan Schone, Stormguard, which is also to be worn like a backpack, offers unparalled protection when compared to what weather experts recommend when tornado shelters are not available. Schone also said that most experts recommend covering with wool blankets, sleeping bags and bed mattresses.

The website of the makers of Stormguardblanket, Protecht, LLC, states that the new, safety yellow, Stormguard blanket helps reduce common injuries to the body from flying and falling debris that commonly occur during tornadoes and hurricanes. Protecht, LLC, suggests that the blanket can be easily stored, and could be an option for those traveling in an RV, truck, car, or for those living in a home, apartment, condominium, or other dwelling that does not provide an appropriate shelter.

“Each Stormguard blanket is made using a layer of 3.5mm Impact Gel, which gives the blanket unprecedented energy absorbing properties, says Schone. ”Impact Gel provides unmatched protection by redistributing shock, weight and heat laterally throughout this layer. Another layer of protection is constructed using Aramid fiber. The Stormguard blanket is not bullet-resistant.”
