DSM Dyneema, the manufacturer of ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMwPE) fibre, branded as Dyneema, and world leader in life protection materials and high performance fibres, displayed its latest developments in its Dyneema Force Multiplier Technology platform for personal and vehicle protection at Defense & Security 2015 exhibition in Bangkok, Thailand, from November 2 to 5, 2015.

Dyneema Force Multiplier Technology is a breakthrough innovation platform from DSM Dyneema, delivering products with a unique combination of exceptional ballistic performance and the lightest weight of any ballistic material currently on the market.

Nicole Ng, regional business manager, Life Protection at DSM Dyneema said, “Dyneema Force Multiplier Technology was developed in response to growing demands for new material technologies that can deliver truly significant improvements in armour weight reduction without compromising ballistic protection in soldier modernization and vehicle armouring programs worldwide, including South East Asia.”

In line with global trends in soldier modernization programs, new generation personal armour is designed with Dyneema Force Multiplier Technology, eliminating the traditional compromise between higher protection and lower weight. Products made with Dyneema Force Multiplier Technology are excellent for developing soft and hard ballistic protection applications such as vests, inserts and helmets for personal protection. Depending on the threat level, Dyneema Force Multiplier Technology can reduce the weight of body armour by up to 30 per cent without sacrificing ballistic protection, while enhancing comfort and agility with fewer layers of material and increased flexibility, according to a press release.

Marcio Manique, global segment director for life protection at DSM Dyneema said, “Dyneema has been well-known in South East Asia for many years as the material of choice in many defence programs that call for higher ballistic protection at a lighter weight. With growing demand for more advanced ballistic protection solutions, Dyneema Force Multiplier Technology will further enhance South East Asia's defence industry with a new innovative dimension to meet current and future requirements and set new ballistic protection standards for personal and vehicle armour.” (GK)
