Low and Bonar, a UK based manufacturer of technical textiles, has opened a manufacturing unit in Yangtze River Delta, China for the production of Colback, its patented nonwoven fabric, as a part of the company's strategy to be close to its core market.

An investment of €32 million has been made for the set-up of the manufacturing unit. It is expected to cover an area of around 29,600 sq metres and employ around 100 people, according to a press statement released by Low and Bonar.

The Colback fabric produced from this manufacturing unit will be supplied to the building and automotive industries and flooring markets in China and other Asian countries. Eventually, the unit will also be producing technical textiles for air and water filtration.

Commenting on the opening, Brett Simpson, CEO of Low and Bonar said, “It is our strategy to have production close to our core markets in order to secure short lead-times and provide world class service to our customers. China – and the rest of Asia Pacific – is a future core market for Low and Bonar Group.”

“Having full control of the production process is essential to deliver products of a consistent high quality and performance. With our local and global customer focused teams and strong service network, we can optimise our processes in production, logistics and administration which brings benefits to our customers,” he said.

“This will also help to decrease our environmental impact by reducing the need to transport products from Europe or the USA to be sold in Asia,” he added.

With majority of sales likely to come from Chinese domestic market and the rest from APAC, the plant is also expected to meet global capacity requirements for Colback for the next five years. (MCJ)
