To solve the challenge of complicated supply chains, PGI is expanding its specialty materials manufacturing capabilities in North America at its San Luis Potosi, Mexico facility.

“The anticipated plant expansion is centered on a need for differentiated products for personal care product manufacturers,” a PGI press release informed.

According to PGI, the planned expansion, including new printing capabilities with in-line slitting and packaging, will allow customers to take advantage of a full-service facility in a single location.

The Mexico plant supplies a range of personal care market areas including; feminine care such as pads and liners, adult incontinence such as bladder control pads and under pads and baby diaper products.

Other specialty materials planned for the new printer include health care products, water resistive and air barriers and roofing products for homebuilding, and a full range of specialty packaging products.

The planned expansion will bring print capacity to 600 million square metres at the site with the ability to produce multiple colours, narrow slit widths and enhanced registration.

PGI expects the new expanded capacity to be commercially operated from the fourth quarter of 2015.

“The expansion will serve PGI's specialty materials offering for personal care, infection prevention and high-performance solutions,” it added.

“Our investment in enhanced printing capabilities allows customers the added advantage of servicing everything under one roof," says Scott Tracey, president, North America for Global Wipes and Technical Specialties.

"I am extremely proud of our Mexico site and the print expertise that it provides the organization. The plant expansion closely aligns with our growth strategy”, he too added by saying.

PGI is a leading global innovator and manufacturer of specialty materials, and the world's largest global manufacturer of nonwovens.

PGI has 22 manufacturing and converting facilities in 14 countries, an employee base of approximately 4,600 employees and the broadest range of process technologies in the nonwovens industry. (AR)
