Polyone said it is unveiling new bold colour and extrusion options within the Resound Natural Fibre Reinforced Composites portfolio this week at the Fakuma International Trade Fair.

The new Resound NF colour options include beige, copper, terra cotta, green, blue and black hues and were developed in collaboration with Polyone's Invisiosm Colour Inspirations 2016 colour collections.

“In addition to these creative hues, Resound NF is now available in formulations that have been tested and proven for profile extrusion,” a Polyone press release stated.

“This has helped expand its use to potential extrusion applications in building and construction, sports and leisure, and furniture manufacturing,” it added.

Compared to other natural fibre reinforced solutions, Resound NF materials offer mechanical property improvements of more than 20 per cent for tensile and flexural properties.

“Additionally, they offer 10°C to 20°C higher heat deflection temperature, and an increase of more than 50 per cent in impact strength,” the company informed.

“Independent testing has shown that Resound NF formulations offer equivalent performance to short glass fibre reinforced alternatives, at a 5-10 per cent lower density,” Polyone stated.

“We have seen significant interest in these strong, lightweight solutions from manufacturers in consumer and other industries,” said Holger Kronimus, general manager, PolyOne Specialty Engineered Materials.

“The new colour and extrusion options have been developed to offer non-automotive customers the flexibility and aesthetics they need while maintaining performance and ease of processing,” Kronimus too added.

Polyone Corporation, with 2014 revenues of $3.8 billion, is a provider of specialised polymer materials, services and solutions. (AR)
