German nonwovens producer Sandler AG is setting up its first overseas plant in the US, which it said will help create an active point of entry into the North American market for the company.

According to Sandler, opening a plant in Georgia is the consequence of years of successfully serving the North American markets from Sandler's German headquarters.

“Sandler's first plant abroad is founded with the intention to develop it into a nonwovens powerhouse,” a press release from Sandler informed.

Another press release from the Georgia Governor's office informed that Sandler will invest more than $30 million in the plant and plans to create more than 140 new jobs in Houston County.

Family-owned and operated Sandler AG is active in both durable applications such as automotive and filtration as well as disposable use including personal hygiene and wipes.

“Establishing a new nonwovens manufacturing plant in the US is an important decision from a strategic point of view and one of the most important steps in our company's history,” CEO Dr. Christian Sandler said.

“Establishing a presence in the US will allow us to answer to the increasing importance of the North American markets and to account for the growing demand from outside Europe,” he added.

Dr. Sandler informed, “In this context, nonwovens for hygiene products are as important as our strongly growing involvement in acoustics, automotive and filtration.”

This year alone, Sandler is investing €48 million towards putting up new buildings and a new production line.

“The years to come will hold various challenges in store for us, but owing to our motivated staff, long-term planning and our partnerships in the industry we are very well-equipped to handle them,” Sandler stated

Founded in 1879, Sandler runs one of the largest production sites for nonwovens in Europe, employing 650 staff and reported 2014 sales of €286 million. (AR)
