SGL Group, Germany's leading carbon company, is set to exhibit new material developments and innovative carbon fibre-based product solutions and their applications at the Experience Composites show 2016 in Augsburg, Germany from September 21 to 23, 2016, in hall 1, booth 319 and in the innovation area in hall 3 in the 'Automotive and Transport' section.

The new fair for fibre composites and lightweight design is being held for the first time in Augsburg and will present innovations, ideas, projects, start-up initiatives, and potential applications for fibre composite materials.

SGL Group will be featuring “Carbon Core” elements used for the body structure of the new BMW 7 series – an impressive example of the innovative use of composites. In this serial application, carbon fibre-based braids from SGL Group are used in combination with aluminium in the roof frames of the new model series.

The company will also be demonstrating smart material hybrid concepts that point up specific new possibilities for the combined use of different materials in automotive engineering of the future. Among the innovations exhibited here will be pre-impregnated fibre bundles, the SIGRAPREG TowPregs based on 50k continuous carbon fibre tow. These are particularly suitable for automated production processes because of their width stability and excellent winding behaviour.

Another highlight of the innovative product solutions presented by SGL Group is the range of different material options in the area of fibre-reinforced thermoplastics. These include tapes, sheets, and LFT, which permit very fast cycles, easy weldability, and good recyclability. (GK)
