International chemical company, Solvay, is presenting latest lightweighting innovations in both the aerospace and automotive markets, at the JEC World expo in Paris, in hall 5A, booth K46.

Solvay Specialty Polymers, and newly formed Composite Materials Cytec global business units (GBU), is exhibiting a stronger portfolio of thermoset and thermoplastic prepregs, structural and 3D-moldable foams, adhesives and surfacing films, resin and compound systems, impact modifiers, carbon fibres, textiles, tooling, and vacuum-bagging consumables, according to a press release.

The chemical firm is displaying its TegraLite thermoplastic light-weighting technology solutions, designed to replace metal and solid plastic structures, based on the world's broadest range of high performance polymer systems with the complementary innovative skills of 3A Composites, Aonix, and JSP. The product range includes TegraCore PPSU foams for heavy duty sandwich applications ranging from aircraft interiors to structural parts that require superior resistance to damage, fire, and liquids including water.

Solvay is also showing its new composite materials and technologies for the high volume automated manufacture of complex structures for the automotive and mass transportation industries. These include rapid cure prepregs, high-pressure resin transfer moulding (HP-RTM) system as well as innovative double diaphragm forming technology. Primary and secondary structural applications for use on large commercial aircraft will also be on display, underscoring the company's leadership in supplying advanced composite materials for demanding applications.

Armin Klesing, aerospace and foam & sandwich manager, Solvay specialty polymers said, “By merging the technology platforms of the two business units, Solvay can now offer customers an unmatched range of materials solutions that help aircraft manufacturers build more planes faster and with lower costs in use. The broadened portfolio encompasses solutions for nearly every material aspect of airplane manufacturing, ranging from the cabin and cargo holds to secondary and primary structural applications.”

Carmelo Lo Faro, executive vice president, industrial business line & business development for Solvay composite materials said, “Through its application engineering competence and newly enhanced global industrial and technological footprint in rapid cure thermoset and thermoplastic composites, films, foams and sandwich solutions for high volume applications, Solvay is ideally placed to meet the automotive OEMs and their supply chain lightweighting needs.” (GK)
