Specialty & Industrial fabric exports from US cross $3.8bn

The exports of specialty and industrial fabrics from the US earned over US$ 3.8 billion in 2013, according to the data from the Office of Textiles and Apparel, under the U.S. Department of Commerce.
 
During the year, the US exported specialty and industrial fabrics worth $3.859 billion, showing a rise of 5.24 percent over export earnings of $3.667 billion recorded in 2012, the data showed.
 
With imports worth $1.748 billion, Mexico accounted for 45.31 percent share in all specialty and industrial fabric exports made by the US during the year. US’ specialty and industrial fabric exports to Mexico jumped by 15.05 percent in 2013, compared to exports valued at $1.519 billion in 2012.
 
However, the largest increase of 25.36 percent was observed in US specialty and industrial fabric exports to Japan, which fetched $86.340 million in 2013, as against the exports of $68.872 million made a year earlier.
 
The second-highest growth of 16.05 percent was seen in exports to the UK, which increased from $78.865 million in 2012 to $91.523 million in 2013.
 
On the other hand, US’ specialty and industrial fabric exports to Hong Kong declined by 13.72 percent year-on-year to $140.604 million in 2013, as compared to exports of $162.953 million made in 2012.
 
Similarly, US’ specialty and industrial fabric exports to Germany, Brazil and Canada fell by 9.09 percent year-on-year, 6.25 percent year-on-year and 5.62 percent year-on-year, respectively.
 
Region-wise, the Western Hemisphere accounted for 69.27 percent share in the US specialty and industrial fabric exports last year.
