Suzhou invests $24 mn for new plant in South Carolina

China's Suzhou Glacier Import & Export Co., Ltd., a global textiles manufacturer, is establishing Upstate operations with the creation of Cold Mountain Material Corporation in Greenville County in the US, the South Carolina Department of Commerce has said in a press release. The company is investing $24 million to open a new manufacturing facility, creating an expected 109 new jobs in Travelers Rest, South Carolina.

Established in 1996, Suzhou specializes in textiles for the automotive industry and services markets across the globe. In an effort to better assist its growing North American customer-base, and the growing automotive sector in South Carolina, Suzhou will establish a facility in the Upstate.

“It's exciting to celebrate another international company making the decision to invest in South Carolina and our people. Suzhou's $24 million investment that will create over 100 new jobs in Greenville County is a real reason to celebrate and truly will make a difference in the lives of South Carolinians. We look forward to working with Suzhou for many years to come as they grow and thrive in South Carolina.” Governor Nikki Haley said.

The company's Greenville County operations – Cold Mountain Material Corporation – will be housed in an existing 170,000-square-foot building located at 19 Page Court in Travelers Rest. Focused on serving the automotive industry, the Cold Mountain Material Corporation will produce fabric for automobile interiors. The facility is anticipated to be fully operational within the next year. (SH)
