Symposium Advances in nonwovens, technical textiles & sustainable materials

Atlanta will be the site of American Association of Textile Chemists and Colorists's (AATCC) October 10-11 symposium focusing on Advances in Nonwovens, Technical Textiles & Sustainable Materials. This two-day program will be held at the Doubletree Hotel Atlanta-Buckhead. The symposium aims to provide a platform for industry and academia to interact and deliberate advancements in materials and textile science which will benefit the global textile and allied industries. The symposium will highlight the latest developments and cutting-edge research of broader interest to textile technologists and material scientists.

The two day symposium will feature topical papers on four main themes: 1) protective performance materials; 2) sustainable materials; 3) multi-functional material additives and 4) engineered fibrous materials. The Protective Performance Materials session will cover topics such as super-repellency, reactive coatings, carbon nanotubes and nano fibers for filters.

The Sustainable Materials session will feature papers related to bio-renewable materials, bio-based 3D composites, sustainability issues in cotton and bio-based high-performance fibers. Presentations to be featured in Multi-Functional Material Additives session will focus on antimicrobial properties of microsilver, peelable coating for removal of decontaminates, novel enzymatic bactericide, developments in plasma treatments and novel encapsulation technology for finishing. The Engineered Fibrous Materials session will focus on developments in the nonwoven and technical textiles field, machinery developments and a market update on the nonwovens and technical textile industry.

Highlighting the program will be market updates on the industrial fabrics and nonwoven industries. Updates will be provided by Jeffrey C. Rasmussen, market research manager, Industrial Fabrics Association International (IFAI) and Rory Holmes, president at INDA, Association of the Nonwoven Fabrics Industry. Dr. Eugene Wilusz, Natick Soldier RD&E Center, will be covering the state-of-the-art and future research needs in the chemical and biological protection arena using fibrous materials. Developments in nonwoven decontamination wipes will be addressed by Amit Kapoor, president, First Line Technology, LLC.
